Item Writer Development: Training Volunteer Writers
Beth Kalinowski, MBA, SPHR, PSI Services LLC
There is a difference between training an item writer to write a question and developing an item writer to write good, useful, practical, and high-performing items. In this webinar explore the cognitive level schemes and how the various levels are applicable to item writing. Then discuss ways to guide item writers in developing higher order questions. By the end of the session, participants will know two strategies to improve the quality of their items.
- Understand cognitive schemes such as Bloom’s taxonomy and Miller’s Pyramid
- Develop a framework for helping item writers achieve higher cognition items
- Understand the situations where higher order questions are useful versus knowledge-based questions
